Scarlatti Sonata in D Minor
This is from a CD I produced back in 1995 of pianist, Gustavo Romero: 17 Keyboard Sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti.
Domenico was the son of the renowned opera composer, Alessandro Scarlatti, who wanted to control him completely. Domenico, who was a competent but undistinguished composer, had to sue his father to gain independence. Once he did, his own genius talent emerged.
At age 48, he married sixteen-year-old Anastasia (who was best friends with the young queen of Spain), his music took on a youthful quality and he created his greatest works: the 555 Keyboard Sonatas.
